Hey there!
Well, i wanted to introduce myself, I am a user from Portugal, and I am very interested in free OS.
I came here because I was looking at some FreeDos videos on youtube, and noticed Doscore there, decided to know more about the project and... well, here i am ;D
I would like to say that I was a little confused by the website, I cant really tell if FreeDos is or not the base for your OS Doscore and Aura. Are Doscore and Aura the same with different Gui??
Anyway, I really like what I have seen so far
I thinks its a wonderfull piece of work and it really gets a lot of courage and hard work to do what you are doing.
Now, I was looking at freedos for a reason, and maybe this is a better solution:
I have an old laptop that I want to get running... well, not really running, its just an hobby of my own inner geek, lol, BUT, i am really trying to get the computer able to do some things. Not that it will be my first machine, but I want to work on it a little.
The computer is a:
Pentium1, 133mhz NONmmx.
64mbs RAM (EDO RAM i believe...)
2mbs graphic.
CDROM (2x speed i believe).
1 usb port (1.0 or 1.1, not sure)
2 PCMCIA slots (i have 2 PCMCIA cards, one has two usb ports that are 2.0, and the other one is a wireless card, 54mbps)
1 infrared port (never used it, lol)
Also, has some other ports, like for a printer and stuff like that... not really gonna use that.
My target was to install Widnows 98SE and use it all to:
-surf web (read a few jokes, visit wikipedia, visti some fotoblogs, stuff like that... nothing major. At the most, maybe check my email, but maybe I will not do that for lack of security).
-use IM (talk to some friends that are away using MSN protocol).
-listen to music (mp3, wma, AUDIO CD)
-read PDFs.
-read and edit text files (DOC, TXT, RTF, DOCX, etc)
-maybe use it to watch a movie in MPEG1 (i did it in the past, trasnformers looked good converted to mpeg1 loool)
So, nothing major... but still a really general use for a PC
So, I was going with Win98... But i want to try free os instead. I already tried Damn Small Linux and didnt like it (although I will not give up my Ubuntu on the main laptop =P). Tried ReactOS and it always crahsed on boot, I gave up on it...
I got to think... the computer is really a low spec one... If i want to use it, I have to go with lighter software. So, for music I decided to try a DOS mp3 player, and got the idea "why not use a graphical version of DOS? Maybe I can use two applicaltions at the same time that way, and i can listen to music while reading PDF and DOC files, for example...".
Of course, I would have to ditch the internet idea, as DOS never supported wireless internet... But it would still be a nice experiment.
So, with this in mind, I came here hoping to use your FreeDos version... although, I have no idea if you are even using FreeDos =P lol.
I read your announcement on Aura M3... and it looked a lot like something I could use for this recreational/educational/geek fun, kind of computer... It aparently supports USB, and has most of my hardware covered... However, it seems that Aura needs MSDOS to run is that correct??
Also, I could only find AuraM2 for download... Where can I download Aura M3 iso, so that i can install it into the hd of the laptop? its a 1.4giga HD, it will be enough I suppose...
So... to make my question simpler:
Can I install Aura (or Doscore, whatever... I think they are the same and I am just confusing as being two diferent OS) in my laptop, and use it to test what my PC can do, and at the same time be a regular user for you, like a "beta user", a "test user"??
Please, give me some clarification, and also the downloads links needed. I thank you for your time
P.S.: I registered TommyLeePark first, but write the email wrong... can you please change it and make me with that user name please?
P.P.S.: Sorry for my bad english
