WTF! have you guys been doing all year??!!
Wow, with the year almost coming to a close we are in a similar position as last year where Aura M2 wasnt released till the end of the year (or start of 2011) so we are rushing around making changes and preparing he next major release.
As you know we have been working with the wattcp library to integrate the code into the Aura Kernel and we have completed this process successfully! the only hold back is the sample aplications Ping, HTTP Downloader & a few more examples trying to keep the applications stable and useable. Orchid web browser is going to take some time we did want to have it in this release but there is a bit of research todo in order to get a functioning browser working in aura and keeping it STABLE!
Aura M2 release 6 VS Aura M3! and future plans
Well between me and chase we were in a debate whether or not the next release should be Milestone 3 or just an updated version on M2...so give us your thoughts?!?
basically on the GUI front nothing has changed since M2 BUT, the live CD has now also included Soundblaster, VIA AC97, ESS Audio automatic driver detection (like the nic detection featured in M2)
The Setup Application now allows you to run FDISK, Formatc (c:\ d:\ etc..) then copy aura to the nominated drive and fetch updates from the Doscore server (which is what i have been working on the last week or so)
the live cd has changed quite a lot... cleaned things up added a few things here and there..
USB CD support is on my list of things todo aswell as USB sticks and HDD's (we did support in the past but i removed it for some dumb/damn reason?)
Firewire HDD drivers also are in the mix but i have no way to test them. i also got asked about NTFS support and honestly i couldnt care about NTFS so...meh
ROS vs FreeDOS
So a while back chase played around with the reactOS kernel and looking at re-building Aura and a win32 app (ozone 0.5.3.0 was the last version) so that Aura M3 can have better hardware support and still run some dos applications. This is only one direction that Chase is looking at.
The other direction was Aura based on a linux/Unix kernel and drop FreeDOS as the underlying OS. But how many Linux flavours and unix flavours out there right? booooring...
BUT!
what does that mean for doscore?
As the Sole founder of Doscore (JFK) i will never leave the doscore project SO... as you may have seen on the doscore main page we have decided to bring back the Orion Desktop M1 (an old developer release) and chase will work on Aura M3 or whatever it ends up being.
At some stage (when the networking HTTP downloader is complete HAHA) i wanna create like a DOS apps type like store that has drivers, links, games etc.. so if you want NTFS support, Firewire ETC.. you can get them from the store and that will also save on LIVECD size.
you tube,
ok youtubers, DOSCORE, AURA is not targeted for your fucking 286,386 or your shit 486! you need atleast 64mb ram, atleast a pentium II and half a brain.
the videos on youtube are not a fair representation of he actual performance of this distribution or the Aura GUI.
Conlclusion
I (JKF) will be working on this release over the w.e! and in weeks to come, so if everyone annoys chase im sure he will work on it too
thanks for your support guys we get good feedback and feedback from intellectually truncated smart arses who think they know better but hey its just a bit of fun so if its not fun for you fuck off yay have a coke and smile. |
